On cold days, you may want some extra heat. Tips for using heat effectively and sustainably:
- Keep windows and doors closed as much as possible. This keeps heat inside the home. If you do want to open windows, choose to do so at a (relatively) warm time of day such as during the day and do so for a short period of time.
- Be sure to apply minimal nighttime cooling. If your home cools down, it takes a lot of energy and time to bring the home back to the desired temperature.
- If you are away from home for a short period of time, It is not necessary the home to cool down. In fact, if you are going away for a night or a few nights, it may be more sustainable to keep your home at temperature than to allow the home to cool completely.
